This is 'Little Amish Nine Patch Quilt' from the book "American Doll Quilts" by Kathleen Tracy (A Sentimental Quilter).
I tried out quilting with white thread, because I thought it would look more traditional. I used 100WT Invisafil thread. I marked the two circles and the cross hatch lines for the feathered wreathes. The border is a stencil. There is continuous curves quilted in all the little 1" squares.
It is fun to try out different ideas with little quilts, but I think I will stick with matching thread for quilting - all I see are the white stitches on this quilt, and not the quilt itself.
I used cotton batting, and it has a nice crinkled look after washing in the above photo. This is also closer to the actual colour of the quilt. The quilt is about 16" square

Very nice, love small quilts.
Very nice little quilt. So simple, yet the quilting makes it shine.
I have decided to work with thread just a little lighter or darker than the fabric, so the quilting shows, but doesn't shout. I do that because my quilting isn't that great. Yours looks fine in white. : )
This is just beautiful! Love the quilting...you did an awesome job!
Beautiful little quilt, and I love the quilting in white. I think it adds interest.
Another beauty from you Joanne! Exquisite quilting but I'm with you... I see the white quilting more than I see the quilt! There's nothing wrong with that, especially if YOU have done the quilting! I could never be that brave! Also, I appreciate the details you give us when telling us about the quilting process on your quilts.
Honestly, the first photo that looks black and red, I was not to keen on the white thread, but I love it with the blue and burgundy(at least that is what they look like to me). The thread almost has a gray look to it in the last photo.
Just saw your class page. Congrats on teaching. I am sure all your students are lucky to have you teaching them.
blessings, jill
Very very nice!!!
If your quilting is poor, use prints and matching thread; if it is good, use solids and contrasting fabric.
Your quilting looks good. And while it is an obvious part of the design, I don't see it detracting from the rest.Fine line between those two!
Lovely!!! including the quilting!! I so much want to do this one but aren't letting myself - just yet!!
it is incredible, the quilting makes this quilt in mho.
wow guess practice, practice, practice is what I need to ever be able to quilt like that!
just beautiful
thanks for sharing.
Kathie
Nicely done!
The little quilt looks great. Your quilting is so perfct!
Lovely little quilt Joanne!
This would make a nice teaching piece, as you can see the quilting lines so well. I love the look, and because the fabrics are all solids the contrasting thread works.
Love it Joanne!! I myself love how your white quilting looks on it!! It really adds to the quilt itself!!
HI Joanne - nice work! I took a class on thread once, and the instructor suggested that if you want your quilting to show - but not too much to go one shade lighter or darker than your background. I haven't tried it yet, but I intend to one of these days! :)
