More Little Blocks

Nine Temecula Quilt Co mystery blocks finished, three more to come. These have been so quick and fun to make (2+1/4" blocks).

The local John Deere dealership always has a lovely Christmas display - this year Santa in a swather.

Avoiding Unpicking!

I have 76 Flying Geese blocks to unpick and remake (I should have double checked my measurements for the fast flying geese), but I seem to be finding other things do to instead!

I have been making more braid for a piece of Romanian Point Lace.

I started another hat. The last one was too thin and so I am making my own version with two strands of wool. Hopefully it will fit.

I decorated the house for Christmas.

My computer is going back in the shop tomorrow, so I should have no excuse to avoid unpicking those flying geese.

Christmas Lights

Yesterday we drove into the city to see the Christmas lights (our annual tradition)-

We came home and the lights in town are just as good -

The lights on the tractor at the John Deere dealership are always my favorite

This morning the gray partridges were back -

And the birds were busy at the feeder later in the day -



Not much seems to bother the bunny (the brown blob under the feeder)! If you listen carefully you can hear the sound of the birds wings at the end, as they take flight (and also the clock ticking - I don't normally notice it, but it is quite loud).

My dear friend Wendy sent me this wonderful fabric postcard -

She stitched a thick paper (thin card) onto the back, and it came through the mail beautifully. Thanks Wendy!!

Christmas Stockings!

My Secret Santa Swap present came today!

Two beautiful Christmas stockings made by Vivian!

My husband and I have the Christmas stockings that we made when we first got married hanging in our bedroom (yes, I said we - my husband stitched his - the only embroidery he has ever done). I made replacement stockings for us, to go with our children's stockings, which I hang on the mantle, and I have been thinking of making stockings for my children to hang in their bedrooms like ours - thanks to Vivian I don't have to! ♥♥

I have put the new stockings in their bedrooms -


They go perfectly with our other decorations, and I was so thrilled when I opened the box - Thanks Vivian!!

I decorated the house for Christmas this week, and here are a few pictures -

The stockings we have are all different types of embroidery - crazy quilting for my youngest, my oldest has a cross stitch one (my Father did the cross stitching), mine is hardanger and my husband's is canvas work (the fanciest one! ie - the one that took me the longest to make!).

We also have a tradition of buying Christmas ornaments on our travels -

one of the first, from Germany over twenty years ago

one from our trip to the east coast five years ago

we chose this one because we saw a whale when we were in Newport, Oregon two summers ago

and from this past summer in Italy

I made it about 12 years ago, the pattern is from the fall 1992 issue of Glass Patterns Quarterly magazine.

That's just some of my decorations, I love having things change in the house at this time of the year!
