I have noticed a couple of others who quilt the feather "upside-down" and when I try it that way, my feather is much nicer! And I FMQ on a Sapphire too!Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12471627015846601167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8102756159443165470.post-68565864339654461372012-11-04T12:24:13.260-06:002012-11-04T12:24:13.260-06:00That's very interesting, and not so different ...That's very interesting, and not so different from longarm feathering freehand. A great practice tool is to get an inexpensive sketch book and practice with a pencil and have some fun doodling. I've also done it in triangle, rectangle and even heart shapes to experiment.

Great video, thanks.Sandihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07601853322552968292noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8102756159443165470.post-75877320159990810422012-10-28T08:23:21.256-05:002012-10-28T08:23:21.256-05:00Great tutorial, Thank you so much!!

I have been using the hooked feathers mostly and find it is quite easy, but sometimes I don't like how they look, so the bump, bump method might be a good alternative at times. BTW, I'm making my version of your 72 hexie table topper, only mine is 96 and not all different, but I didn't put more than 3 of the same red in it. I started it on my trip and ran out of red, found a little baggie of red fabric pieces in an antique shop for $1 and used some of those, plus got a few FQs at quilt shops, but had to wait until I got home for more reds. Hope you don't mind my copying your project. I thought it was so pretty.Ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11912222251238739813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8102756159443165470.post-35668473249077648112012-10-28T02:34:29.671-05:002012-10-28T02:34:29.671-05:00You made it look so easy Joanne.

I have made some attempts at feathers, but haven't felt secure enough to try them on an actual quilt--and I haven't ever tried the "bump, bump" method.
